Ask is open

I’m going to open asks for a little while.

I just posted my tour schedule as of now; please don’t waste time asking if I’m coming to your city! (Especially if you’re in Europe or Central/South America because I’m hoping to get there later this year, but it’s not finalized yet.)

Easily my favorite cosplay at Denver Comic Con this year (2013)! Worn by the lovely Laura J. Kept your last name abbreviated for privacy. Thanks for contacting me! Not going to lie, I’m pretty curious as to how your husband and Mr. O’Malley know each other! haha
Everyone there was awesome! Can’t wait until next year =)

I did a comic called Style for some website that i can’t remember the name of back in maybe 1999-2000. It only lasted for a few weeks and was really bad. I was pretty young.

It was about 3 high school girls. The main character was Lauren Wood and the other two girls were Lisa Miller and Kim Pine. The title “Style” was just meaningless — I was really into this Orbital song called Style, and I liked the word. The comic wasn’t about fashion, it wasn’t really about anything. I was trying to be just like Paul Pope and my art was very derivative of his work at the time.

A few years later I resurrected the title and characters for 3 really goofy comedy strips on the Oni Press website. I think it was one per month, and those months were November 2002, December 2002 and January 2003.

I did these strips just before starting work on Lost at Sea, but they are more of a precursor to Scott Pilgrim (which I had already been doing notes and sketches for since around March 2002).

Obviously, Kim Pine would be a major Scott Pilgrim character; the high school backdrop became the basis for Scott’s high school memories; and Lisa Miller is involved in the Scott Pilgrim books too. (Lauren became just a cameo in SP.)

In these strips the characters don’t really have much of a personality. Since I only did three, I didn’t develop it very much beyond silly jokes. The third strip was done when I was sick with a cold, so it kinda sucks, but whatever.

There you have it!

I have this other tumblr blog, and for a long time it was ‘secret’, because I wanted somewhere online where I could be anonymous. Scott Pilgrim was getting too big and crazy and I wanted to hide from it sometimes, so I would just scroll down tumblr and reblog stuff and zone out and not have to deal with fans or friends or any human contact. It was like some dumb form of meditation.

Anyway, I use it a lot less now, I don’t care if it’s secret anymore, and it’s annoying because it’s my main tumblr account and I can’t ever interact with ANYONE without revealing it. It’s just a 100% image reblog tumblr, it’s not for anyone, it’s not about anything, it’s not interesting to fans, it’s just stuff I like aesthetically (mostly girls, fashion, art, anime/manga stuff, pixels). So I’m just making it public now to save myself some hassle, and i changed its name to radio-x-maru.tumblr.com.

WHY AM I THANKED IN SKULLGIRLS?

or something

Skullgirls is a video game. A fighting game. An indie game. It came out last year and they are currently working on new DLC. It has a cult following.

Reason 1: Two of the lead artists on Skullgirls worked on the Scott Pilgrim game.

Reason 2: The main character designer of Skullgirls, Alex Ahad, is someone I’ve known (IRL) for over ten years. I had him do a pinup (of Matthew Patel and the demon girls) in the back of Scott Pilgrim volume 3 in 2006.

Reason 3: There was a hilarious time when the game was announced and the gaming blogs played a game of telephone where Alex was credited with a pinup in Scott Pilgrim and that changed to “worked on Scott Pilgrim” and then eventually became “creator of Scott Pilgrim”. He was embarrassed but it wasn’t his fault. I wasn’t mad. We all thought it was just kinda funny.

Reason 4: I support Skullgirls! These people are my friends!! Friends thank friends in their credits!!!!

panel from strawberries w/ the colors we hope to print them in

we have 12 days left and hecka money left to print this book, so please help out and spread the word. xoxoxoxo

(those are salome glasses from a-morir. draw what you can’t buy)

It would be cool if you contributed to this indie comics project. Mia Schwartz (dangerschwartz on tumblr) is one of my favorite young cartoonists and I want to read more of her work.

Hey look, eight new tees and some reprints are up for preorder at SEIBEI! You can even get them as TANK TOPS if you want (sizes S - 2XL only, sorry).
Orders are being placed with the printer this week, and everything will ship early May. I’m always surprised by what sizes of each design sells, so I’m trying out a preorder system to make sure that no one who wants a shirt in a certain size is denied.
HOPE YOU LIKE THEM! Which one is your favorite?

David’s Sprang 2013 collection is ON POINT

I don’t normally do this but these are very cool shirts by a very cool guy whom I’m love. You should order some.

Hi guyssss.
I’m selling a phone-friendly PDF, collecting 200 pages of comics and drawings from 2010-2012, to raise money for my web hosting.
Contains comics about video games, girls, and junk food and noodles. And nature and going home and cute little kids~
Drawn in Seattle, San Jose, San Francisco, LA, New York, and the Baltimore/DC area. Probably some other places too.
200 pages for $10 = 5 cents per page. That’s not bad, right?
HIGHLY recommend that you read this on your phone, on a bus, on a cold day, with coffee in your other hand. Or in bed, under the covers, when you can’t fall sleep. Third option: The Bathroom, while you’re doin’ stuff.
Buy here!

Thank you <3

Maré Odomo is super good and you should get this pdf and read his comics
